![]() ![]() The overall feeling though feels somewhat lacking, it doesn't feel as flavorful as 2 in the respect of how much like an actual park it feels. There's even more coaster variety than in 2, but again some of the coasters get silly, some which may not exist in real life, or only a couple of examples exist. That is one thing I missed in 2 that is present in both 1 and 3, a reward for completing a scenario successfully. The plus to scenario play in 3 is that it is a structured career, where you unlock more parks by completing the various tiers of objectives in the prior scenarios. The only way you can "lose" a scenario in 3 is to drive the park into the ground beyond all hope of recovery. Not to mention there are not actually failure conditions, and there are some cheap, stupid ways you can beat some of the objectives. In 3 on the other hand, a lot of the objectives are lame or downright nonsensical (they got really silly in the expansions Soaked! and especially Wild! Profits off of selling animals? Please, this isn't farm Tycoon). ![]() I really get the amusment park vibe in this game ![]() There's plenty of coaster variety if you are a coaster enthusiast, it's pretty easy to build awesome thrill machines. A lot of the rides are classic carnival rides or things you see in a lot of parks (a couple of notable omissions are swings and a tilt-a-whirl). The scenario editor for 2 is pretty weak as well, it's difficult to make a decent custom scenario that is not an empty plot of land. However, 2 is basically a bunch of standalone scenarios, there's nothing more to be gained other than the satisfaction of completing the objective. And although there wasn't a whole lot of variety of objective types, they did give you a goal that made sense for running a park. You actually had a certain time in which to complete your objective, and it was possible to lose a scenario. If you're into that, go with 3.ΔΆ was much better in terms of scenario play and just the general feel of the game imo. You get to ride the coasters that you build which is pretty cool. The only thing I really enjoy about 3 is the coaster cam. I'd recommend looking at what's included in each version, find some screenshots or youtube videos of gameplay, and see what appeals to you. RCT3 also has a 'coaster cam' so you can 'ride' the rides and see what it's like from the POV of your guests, which is both fun and useful when designing rides. But it's still fun, and platinum edition also includes water park rides, which I really love. I bought 3 recently, and the style is different - it's 3d, and so far (I haven't played much) the scenarios don't seem quite as in-depth or challenging, while the gameplay can be frustrating - getting the ground completely level to build on, for example. Think Sim City 2 or Civ II in terms of graphics and gameplay. 2 seems more economic-based, with a lot of scenarios (you have a certain amount of time to meet certain goals). I bought 2 first after googling this same question - a lot of reviewers seem to prefer 2, but I think a lot of that is just because of the nostalgia factor, because 3 is quite different from 2. ![]()
